The two-year second-level course in Multimedia and Technological Arts – New Languages of Art offers advanced theoretical and practical training in the field of visual arts using new technologies. Each student is guided by various lecturers in an individual training programme that teaches them how to design and implement their own multimedia art project, reflecting their own ideas. Given that students enrol from a variety of backgrounds, in addition to a compulsory curriculum, the programme offers a range of carefully selected elective courses in which each student can tailor their specialisation between workshops and theoretical courses according to their specific objectives, such as practical knowledge of the latest technologies in the field of photography, video and multimedia, digital animation, the design of video installations and interactive systems, performance techniques, the history and theory of new media, theories of the multimedia art market or the phenomenology of contemporary arts. Students are encouraged to participate in collaborative and multidisciplinary projects, exchanges with other European universities and academies, and apprenticeship experiences in different areas of artistic production.
The School provides students with professional and semi-professional equipment for shooting and projecting video, recording and manipulating sound, and designing multimedia and interactive systems. The classrooms are equipped with PCs and Macs, including laboratories for editing, digital printing and 3D printing.

Learning Objectives
The two-year course in Multimedia and Technological Arts – New Languages of Art, leading to a Second-Level Academic Diploma from the School of New Technologies of Art, is a natural specialisation and extension of the three-year courses in “Multimedia and Technological Arts”, “Photography and Video” and “Audiovisual Theory and Techniques”, as well as a further cross-disciplinary development of the three-year course in “Communication and Teaching of Art – Multimedia Teaching Course”. During the two-year course, students acquire their own methodology which they can design and implement an artistic research project that makes critical and innovative use of new technologies. They also develop an awareness of issues relating to multimedia arts production and exhibition methods in relation to public and private entities operating in the contemporary art world. Graduates will be able to demonstrate their theoretical and technological skills both as a link between the worlds of production and artistic research, and as professionals capable of creatively interpreting the prospects for applying new digital technologies to the languages of art.
Graduates of the second-level diploma course in Multimedia and Technological Arts – New Languages of Art receive in-depth theoretical and practical training in the methods and content of art using new digital media and acquire specific methodological and critical tools for the conception, design and production of multimedia and interactive artworks.
Career prospects
Graduates will be able to work as freelance artists in the field of new technologies, creating multimedia and interactive projects. They will be able to design, develop, supervise and manage all stages of a multimedia art project, from production to final installation, with mastery of the tools and in-depth knowledge of artistic languages. They will be able to cooperate, independently or in partnership with other professionals in the sector, in the public and/or private sphere, in the design and implementation of multimedia projects. They will also be able to work as specialised professionals in the field of artistic production mediated by new technologies, with specific skills in the field of audio-video shooting/editing/effects, digital animation and design, the set-up of multimedia and interactive systems, multimedia documentation and communication, and digital performance.
Entry requirements
Students with a diploma obtained from the institution’s three-year Multimedia Arts programme are eligible for direct admission to the two-year course without having to participate in the entrance process.
Students from other institutions or courses must hold a First-Level Academic Diploma or a Four-Year Academic Diploma or a related university degree, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable by the Academy of Fine Arts in accordance with international agreements. Students from other institutions or courses can access the two-year Multimedia Arts-New Languages of Art course by passing an entrance exam, which involves the submission of a portfolio and an interview in which the candidate must demonstrate their motivation for enrolling on the course and present their educational, scientific and professional artistic experience relevant to admission. Candidates must submit a letter of motivation to the Commission, along with paper and digital documentation illustrating their previous training and demonstrating their artistic interest (not exclusively technical) and their skills in using new technologies in their language (audio-video, photography, sound art, multimedia and/or interactive installations, animations, net art, augmented reality, virtual reality). The documentation should preferably be compiled in a PDF file and submitted in digital format (USB, cloud or web, with URLs for any video content uploaded to Vimeo or YouTube platforms).
Students admitted to the two-year course may be awarded credits or required to make up for any missing credits. During the admission interview, the Committee will identify any educational requirements and indicate the courses that need to be taken to fulfil them. At the student’s request, the Head of School will also recognise any educational credits based on the candidate’s degree certificate or diploma with exams taken.
Type of final assessment
The final assessment to obtain the second-level academic diploma consists of the design, realisation and discussion of a multimedia artistic project, under the supervision of one or more supervisors. The project must be accompanied by a theoretical thesis in written or graphic form, which explores the themes, the creative process and the implementation process, and which includes the student’s reflections and perspectives on the work presented.
