Learning Objectives

The course of study for the second-level academic diploma from the School of Scenography aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the disciplines involved in the design and creation of scenography in relation to the various skills required in the performing arts. The training programme focuses on scenographic composition activities supplemented by skills corresponding to the disciplinary areas of history, criticism, literature and philosophy, as well as technical skills relating to materials, technologies and lighting, and design skills relating to the use and management of space, the principles of representation and the use of digital processing techniques. The Second-Level Academic Diploma Course lasts two years. The Second-Level Academic Diploma is awarded upon completion of a two-year course of study and requires students to acquire 120 Academic Credits (CFA). Each CFA corresponds to 25 hours of workshop-based teaching, 12.5 hours of theoretical-practical teaching and 7.5 hours of theoretical teaching.

Career prospects

Second-level graduates of the School of Scenography will, depending on their chosen path, be able to access professional activities in various public and private sectors, working in different areas of the entertainment world, theatrical set design (opera, dance, prose and experimental theatre), cinematographic and television scenography, staging, costume design for the performing arts, and staging for a variety of events such as exhibitions, fashion shows, concerts and more. Working with public and private organisations, the School will arrange the most suitable work placements and apprenticeships to help students achieve specific professional qualifications.

Entry requirements

To be admitted to the second-level diploma course, applicants must hold a first-level or four-year Academy diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable by the Academy. This qualification entitles the candidate to take an entrance examination aimed at assessing their technical and artistic skills, with particular reference to representation and design techniques and specific cultural knowledge relating to the sector. Those who hold a first-level academic diploma in scenography or a four-year diploma in scenography are exempt from the exam. The exam consists of a graphic test and an interview with the members of the committee.

Type of final assessment

The Second-Level Academic Diploma is awarded after obtaining 120 credits in the student’s study plan. The student must earn 60 credits per year. The final assessment for the second-level Diploma, which is worth 12 credits, consists of the presentation and discussion of a graphic design project developed in one or more workshops and a written thesis, which must be submitted to the supervisor and the academic office no later than thirty days before the date of the discussion. The final assessment is marked out of one hundred and ten.
