Born in Naples on 25 April 1967. I divide my time between Rome, the United States and China.
My experience in the field of art and art education has led me to become an academic lecturer and an experimental artist.
Contemporary art historian, curator, journalist and radio/television presenter, Courtesy Professor at Florida International University in Miami and Visiting Professor at the Future Design Center of Beijing Normal University in Zhuhai, China.

AVANT-GARDE SELF-PORTRAIT

COURSE OBJECTIVES
The main objective of the course is to establish connections between scientific, psychological and aesthetic theories, while maintaining the 20th-century art world (First and Second Avant-Gardes) as a unifying framework for the conception and creation of an ‘avant-garde self-portrait’, which students will produce following the guidance provided during the course.

GENERAL SECTION
The course programme includes the study of:

  • Elements of the neurophysiology of vision (retina and eyeball, photochemistry of vision, rhodopsin cycle, higher brain processes, sleep/dream/wake cycle)
  • Freudian and post-Freudian theories
  • Theories of perception and creativity (Gestalt Theory, Cognitivism, Eventualism)
  • Introduction to 20th-century psychology and the psychology of art
  • Analysis of contemporary artistic production. In particular, for each movement covered, the specific connection between artistic production and aesthetic theory will be highlighted.

ARTISTIC PROJECT

Creation of an AVANT-GARDE SELF-PORTRAIT, i.e., a work that will be accompanied by an analytical editorial sheet, which each student must complete in accordance with the instructions provided.

Dissertation
The thesis application must be submitted at least 6 months before the diploma session in which the student intends to graduate. Final presentation, in the form of an ABSTRACT of approximately 1 page, accompanied by a table of contents and a reading list.

Dissertations
Students’ dissertations and experimental projects must be agreed upon, planned during the course and submitted in good time, at least 15 days before the examination date.

To take the exam, each student must:
1) Study the books listed in the reading list
2) Prepare the PowerPoint presentation to be delivered in class
3) Complete the art worksheet that will be provided
4) Produce a work in the form of a self-portrait to be discussed during the exam.

Prior to the examination, students must provide a digital photo of the self-portrait, with a resolution of 600 dpi, together with the completed worksheet for the work.

FREUD’S ROOMS

COURSE AIMS
The main objective of the course is to introduce students, through the intellectual and creative forms of self-awareness, to the fundamental concepts of the Psychology of Art.

GENERAL SECTION
The Psychology of Art is a multidisciplinary field that is set to play an increasingly central role in techno-scientific education and contemporary aesthetic research. The general section of the course addresses the following topics: what the Psychology of Art is, when and how it originated, its main methodologies, and how the Psychology of Eventualist Art has developed from the 1970s to the present day.

DIGITAL PROJECT
The course’s digital project, launched in 2020, involves the creation of a thematic hypertext on the psychology of art. This thematic hypertext will be the subject of discussion and study with the students on the course. Each year, students contribute to the expansion and development of the original project. Students will contribute individually and/or in groups by developing and adding new content and experimental materials. To participate in the digital project, students are required to have specific knowledge of PREZI, MIRO, KOBI and/or other multifunctional applications.
