The three-year programme will address the emergence of museums from the early twentieth century and the debate on the future of museum architecture. The American concept of the museum as a workshop, in contrast to European approaches that focus on a museum built around the visitor.
READING LIST

• Il museo oggi, linee guida per una museologia contemporanea, Cataldo, Paraventi – Hoepli, 2007 (Chapters to be agreed with the lecturer)

TWO-YEAR COURSE

PROGRAMME
The Contemporary Museology course examines the relationship between museums and society, and how fundamental changes in museums can be traced back to social transformations. The two-year programme examines the evolving perspectives of the museum since the 1950s, how it has changed over the decades, and how leisure time and the ways in which cultural assets are enjoyed have changed along with it. From a lofty temple removed from society, the museum has become a place permeated by the conflicts and contradictions of life beyond its walls.

TWO-YEAR COURSE

PROGRAMME
The Museology and Exhibition Management course addresses issues related to the management of a space from a conceptual point of view. The course examines the reasons behind the placement of an artwork in a particular environment and how exhibitions are the result of the relationship between the artwork and the space. The two-year programme examines the changes that took place in the post-World War II period of the twentieth century, the emergence of the role of the curator, and an analysis of the exhibitions that, in the late 1960s, completely transformed the way exhibition projects are conceived and staged. Students will work on a case study, which will be the subject of an examination.
