Learning Objectives
The study programme for the first-level academic diploma in the School of Painting aims to develop artistic skills and professionalism which, taking into account the pluralism of languages and innovative techniques, enable students to develop their own individual research in the field of traditional painting and its evolution in the context of experimentation with new forms of expression. Graduates must possess adequate technical and operational mastery of methods and content relating to research areas in the arts in order to progress in acquiring an independent and personal awareness of artistic production. They must be able to use methodological and critical tools appropriate for acquiring the expressive languages of the most advanced techniques, and express themselves in at least one European Union language in their specific field of expertise and for the exchange of general information. Proficiency in communication and information management using IT tools is also required. During the three-year course, students will be required to identify a platform of interests and cultural similarities on which to base the organisation of their knowledge in relation to their interest and choice of painting as a poetic and expressive area in order to focus and organise their work. During the first three years of study, students must demonstrate a solid knowledge of techniques, art history up to the present day, and cultural anthropology, and be able to engage with these disciplines, putting their technical and cultural skills to the test in order to develop and perfect them in a workshop environment where systems and ideas are developed. The first-level course at the School of Painting aims to develop artistic skills and professional profiles that take into account the varied and complex cultural debate, understood as both historical and contemporary knowledge. With the educational support of the teaching staff, students will be required to identify a decisive path of research and exploration towards the achievement of their own poetic physiognomy and the characterisation of a linguistic identity. The process is not merely about professional acquisition and the achievement of exclusively technical and practical objectives, limited to a field of technological knowledge and cultural information, but rather a slow and lengthy process of absorbing and acquiring knowledge which, requiring a true vocation and passion, involves the entire person and the intimate and primordial essence of the individual. The objective of the first level course at the School of Painting is also to inspire and encourage students to set a journey in motion that involves developing a deeper understanding and critical-speculative thinking, which are essential for identifying and forming a language. The aim of the three-year course is to prepare students to “know how to see” in order to identify their own “angle of vision” in tune with their own being and feelings.
Career prospects
Graduates will be able to work in various fields, both as freelance artists and in the creative sector, and will be able to collaborate in the planning and implementation of specific projects involving painting, new technologies and new forms of expression found in national and international events. In agreement with public and private bodies, the academies will organise the most appropriate work placements and apprenticeships to help students achieve specific professional skills and will further define specific training programmes for each course of study.
