Enacting Artistic Research (EAR)

The project

The Enacting Artistic Research (EAR) project aims to use artistic research as a national strategic lever for the internationalisation of Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance (AFAM).

The main objectives of EAR are:

Integration between art and science: combining advanced technologies and cultural heritage to promote a new vision of art and culture in a global context.
International dialogue and collaboration: creating connections between AFAM institutions and scientific institutes to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and methods.
Inclusion and accessibility: using technology to make cultural heritage accessible to a wider audience, overcoming physical and digital barriers.

The project is coordinated by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (ABAROMA) and involves partners of excellence with extensive international networks:

These are complemented by a solid network of associated partners at the international level: European League of Art Institutes (ELIA), Doctoral School of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb – Academy of Fine Arts, The e Norwegian Artistic Research School, Latvian Academy of Art, Ars Electronica, Chigiana Music Academy.

The activities carried out as part of the EAR project (in particular those developed under the auspices of WP2) have also made it possible to establish a partnership linking the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome to CHNet – Cultural Heritage Network, the network of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), which brings together laboratories engaged in the development and application of analytical techniques for the study and diagnosis of materials used in cultural heritage.

EAR runs for a period of 22 months, starting on 1 May 2024, and is funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, Mission 4, Component 1 with a contribution of €2,422,593.63.

The activities of the Work Packages

The project is structured in five Work Packages (WP), each of which contributes to the achievement of the strategic objectives:

Work Package 1: Project management and quality assessment
Manages the coordination and general supervision of the project, ensuring effective planning, monitoring of results and control of financial activities.

Work Package 2: Art|cultural heritage and science: Cross-fertilisation
Creates a transdisciplinary research environment where artistic research interacts with scientific and technological research to open up new perspectives of knowledge.

Work Package 3: Artificial and Collective Intelligence
Develops and expands the digital platform °’°Kobi, created as a proof of concept by the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (ABAROMA) and the Marche Polytechnic University (UNIVPM), to make the research available internationally.

Work Package 4: Artistic Research Hub
Promotes the doctoral study programme, connecting doctoral students with various research topics and curricula to strengthen the consortium’s research ecosystem.

Work Package 5: Dissemination, cultural mediation and Open Data
Manages the project’s communication, expanding the international visibility of AFAM and ensuring the dissemination of the results to the target audience.
