Audiovisual theory and techniques

Audio-Visual Theory and Techniques is the first Academic Diploma Course in the field of Cinema and Audio-Visual Studies offered by an Italian Academy of Fine Arts.
Its creation encouraged other Italian academies to enter the world of cinema, launching similar, but not identical, courses of study.
In fact, several years of implementation have allowed us to experiment with and refine the Audiovisual Theory and Techniques Study Plan, making it a course with unique characteristics that allow it to be studied as a single programme combining a three-year and two-year course (3+2) or as two separate courses. For example, it is possible to enrol in the two-year course after completing a different course of study, while still having the opportunity to acquire all the skills necessary to work in the film and audiovisual sector.
Audiovisual Theory and Techniques applies academic methods to the training of cinematographic and audiovisual directors, audiovisual content creators and artistic directors. Individuals capable of controlling and managing the entire process of project development and implementation from the outset, drawing on artistic, cultural, communication, legal, economic and technological disciplines with agility.
Our Graduates, including Oscar winners, are well-rounded professionals who, by consciously interpreting every aspect of the artistic field and the relevant market, arrive at innovative aesthetic solutions.
Thanks to high-level theoretical and/or practical lessons taught by lecturers and external experts, graduates in Audiovisual Theory and Techniques have a world of opportunities at their disposal.
The international environment of ABA Rome also offers a wide range of conferences, meetings with artists and professionals, including those from the cinematographic and audiovisual sectors, student collaborations, exhibitions, participation in experimental projects, seminars, work placements and workshops.
The only example of its kind in Italian academies, our Placement Office facilitates and organises, in accordance with the ambitions and professional skills of each individual student, work placements that are useful for entering the job market.

Photography and Video

The first-level course in Photography and Video was established in 2016 to meet the demands of a number of students interested in specialising in photographic and audiovisual language. Students enrolled in the course are guided over the three-year period in a well-structured and coherent training programme that addresses the issues of constructing photographic and video images from both a technical and a methodological point of view, in the belief that every artistic language is the expression of a conscious thought capable of adapting technique to their expressive needs. The study plan is structured around theoretical courses, laboratories and workshops, and students have access to professional and semi-professional equipment for photography and video shooting, multimedia classrooms on PC and Mac platforms, a digital printing laboratory, an analogue printing laboratory and an editing laboratory. The working environment is focused on respecting the needs and inclinations of each individual student, in the belief that the primary objective of teaching is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to develop their talent. Whether you are interested in acquiring specific professional skills or are more drawn to new forms of artistic expression, the three-year Photography and Video course allows you to develop techniques and working methods in depth and develop a critical eye and an awareness of how to make a difference in the job market.
