Learning Objectives
The second-level course in Fashion Culture and Technology is a natural specialisation of the three-year training course in Fashion Culture and Technology, developing and consolidating the skills already acquired in the corresponding first-level course and further defining specific knowledge, with a view to a more targeted and qualified professional preparation. The course is structured in three distinct specialisations: Fashion Design, Costume Design for the Performing Arts and Jewellery Design.
The Fashion Design programme aims to train professionals capable of conceptualising, designing and creating a collection, critically using different tools and languages and considering fashion as a complex cultural system. The teaching activities will focus on advanced knowledge and the use of techniques that enable professional practice in the design and creation of clothing and accessories, as well as the specific skills required to work in the field of communication related to the world of fashion. Graduates of the course will be prepared not only for careers in fashion design, but also for those related to communication, marketing, trend forecasting, the textile sector, management, etc. To enrol in the course, you must have obtained a first-level diploma in Fashion Culture and Technology, failing which you will have to take an entrance exam.
Career prospects
Graduates of the course will be prepared not only for careers in the specific field of fashion design, but also for other professional sectors such as communication, marketing, trend forecasting, creative direction, textiles, production and management. The aim of the course is to showcase fashion culture as an interdisciplinary yet specific field, which in turn leads to equally specific professions, such as fashion designer, digital fashion designer, stylist, illustrator, pattern maker, as well as fashion stylist, i.e. the person responsible for the brand image, or “product person”; fashion editors (creators and operators of editorial projects for fashion, graphics and photography); museum curators for fashion and theatre costume collections; organisers of events (exhibitions, fashion shows) in which fashion takes on an openly spectacular character.
Entry requirements
The second-level course in “Fashion Culture and Technology” is open to those who hold a first-level academic diploma in “Fashion Culture and Technology”.
A committee composed of course lecturers will evaluate the individual cases of applicants to the course who hold other academic diplomas.
Type of final assessment
The final assessment involves the completion of a written theoretical part, carried out in close contact with the supervisor, and a practical part that involves the creation of outfits and projects to be agreed with the teachers. The design and implementation phases, as well as the final product, must be in line with the advanced level of the course.
