Learning Objectives
The second-level course in Editorial Photography is a targeted and specialised in-depth study programme lasting three years, focusing on photographic techniques and advertising and editorial graphics. The second-level course in Editorial Photography aims to provide students with the specialist skills needed to create high-quality photographic products for different markets and types of consumption and use, from the book and journalism sectors to the world of the web, The training programme aims to provide in-depth knowledge of photographic design and production techniques, both in terms of digital software and their interaction with manual techniques, with the utmost respect for the coexistence of traditional methods and experimental technologies.
Career prospects
Graduates of the course will be professionally trained in various public and private sectors of design, with a focus on new career opportunities and great flexibility in a variety of application areas. In particular, targeted at institutions, museums, small and medium-sized enterprises, and even large publishing companies, with a focus on visual and digital communication. The course aims to train professionals who are able to work independently and in collaboration with other operators in the sector. More specifically, graduates will be able to access various professional roles related to the world of photography and graphic design, such as: art director, advertising photographer, concept artist, digital illustrator in the world of image-making, graphic and photographic designer for digital publishing and the web. Working with public and private organisations, the Academy will arrange the most suitable work placements and apprenticeships to help students achieve specific professional qualifications.
Entry requirements
To be admitted to the course, applicants must hold a secondary school diploma or other qualification obtained abroad and recognised as equivalent by the Academy in accordance with international agreements. On a transitional basis, students holding a four-year art school diploma or diploma from an art institute may also be admitted.
Candidates will be selected through the presentation of documentation and an interview.
The committee will assess the candidate’s technical and expressive skills and motivations through an interview and will verify their level of basic knowledge in the fields of IT, photography, video and cinematography.
Candidates must submit a curriculum vitae including any professional experience deemed useful for the purposes of evaluation;
· a motivational letter (Personal statement) explaining the reasons for enrolling in the Academy and
the two-year course in Editorial Photography;
· diploma / first level degree certificate with exams taken;
· digital documentation with a selection of graphic, photographic and audiovisual works produced.
The admission process is aimed at assessing the candidate’s technical skills and artistic qualities. The selection will be based on the analysis and discussion of the documentation submitted by the candidate. As an integral and fundamental part of the assessment, the interview will therefore aim to clarify both the student’s motivations and the quality of their academic progress. The portfolio will be the subject of discussion and should be as comprehensive as possible in documenting the path taken. The documentation must be representative of all the work carried out during the applicant’s training and artistic-professional career relevant to the field of study. It is advisable to compile a coherent portfolio, organised by theme or project, accompanied by brief descriptions of the work, and to pay attention to both the photographic and video aspects. Any multimedia materials (graphic animations, videos, video clips, animations, etc.) must be uploaded to a sharing platform (YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive with a public folder) and the full link must be indicated in the PDF.
The admission results include three possible evaluations: admission, non-admission, conditional admission. In the case of conditional admission – intended, for example, for students who demonstrate excellent abilities but have technical gaps to fill – the committee will specify the methods for fulfilling the conditions through a compulsory preparatory course within the first academic year.
Type of final assessment
The final assessment for obtaining the second-level Academic Diploma consists of the design and implementation of a photographic or editorial project, accompanied by a related theoretical thesis that defines and explores its historical and linguistic implications.
