Bondi
It is the places of art that have shaped Moreno Bondi’s academic career and artistic journey.
Born in 1959 in Carrara, the home of marble and sculpture, and raised in Tuscany, the cradle of the Renaissance, it is Baroque Rome that serves as the chosen setting for his work, which strikes a balance between memory and experimentation.
A scholar of Caravaggio, Moreno Bondi combines 17th-century oil painting, Statuario marble sculpture and contemporary artistic languages, bringing together technical skill, sensitive beauty, intellectual depth and emotional engagement.
His university career has been marked by prominent positions since 1987, when, at a very young age, he was appointed to the Chair of ‘Painting Techniques’ at the Academy of Fine Arts, first in Carrara and then in Rome.
Through his passionate and expert research into Merisi’s technique, Moreno Bondi has earned the respect of the academic and artistic world, and has also worked as a consultant for Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo and for the Correggio Foundation. The magazine ‘ARTE IN’ dedicated a prestigious cover feature to him, describing him as ‘a name worth investing in’, while its readers voted him one of the most highly regarded artists internationally.
The series ‘I grandi temi della Pittura’ (The Great Themes of Painting, edited by Marco Bussagli) has enshrined him in art history, publishing his work ‘Parole di Pietra’ (Words of Stone, oil on canvas and Statuario di Carrara marble sculpture) to document the female form in the twentieth century, alongside masterpieces by Picasso and Klimt. The web celebrates Moreno Bondi with ‘Beauty in the Net’, the new artistic themes for the GOOGLE CHROME browser created by him. His work has attracted the ongoing interest of Vittorio Sgarbi, who invited him to the 54th VENICE BIENNALE, while publications dedicated to him bear the authoritative signatures of Antonio Paolucci, Claudio Strinati, Bert Treffers, Marco Bussagli, Giovanni Faccenda, Rossella Vodret and Janus.
