Biography

Maria Angelica Molinari was born in Santiago de Chile. She received her artistic training in Italy, where she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome with a diploma in Decoration. She developed a passion for Graphic Art during her academic studies and has never looked back, devoting herself with enthusiasm and dedication to this expressive art form. M. Angelica Molinari made her artistic debut in 1989, when she presented her etchings to the public at a solo exhibition held at the ‘Dulcis Inn’ Cultural Association in Rome; since then, the artist has exhibited her work in numerous group and solo exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad, at cultural associations, galleries, museums and institutions. In recognition of the quality of her work, the artist has been appointed on several occasions to teaching positions, including as a Full Professor of Printmaking Techniques at various State Academies of Fine Arts since the 1995–1996 academic year. She also organises group exhibitions for her most deserving students, in collaboration with other academies, at exhibition venues, associations and institutions. In 2022, she organised the first edition of the International Graphic Art Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.

Art Graphics
Teaching programme

The Graphic Art course covers both direct and indirect printmaking techniques, as well as the study of the visual signature in its broadest artistic expression. Students will learn the historical foundations of the printmaking techniques covered on the course and, at the same time, will apply themselves to the artistic production of their own original works.
Understanding the broad spectrum of art graphics expands students’ expressive abilities, enabling them to delve into a world of signs where they discover profoundly felt sensations and emotions that lead them along an unexpected and entirely new path. The central sign of the graphic world will be analysed in its individual structure and then used in the composition of the plate. The second phase of learning focuses on the world of art printing, where students will learn the technical process and, using their own skills, experiment to achieve the best possible print results, which they will then be able to adapt to their own artistic productions.
The course will consist of theoretical and practical lectures, oral assessments and regular reviews.
The following texts are recommended for students to consult in order to gain a more in-depth understanding of the subject:
– Le Tecniche Calcografiche di incisione diretta ‘Bulino Puntasecca Maniera Nera’ Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica Lineamenti di Storia delle Tecniche Ginevra Mariani, Edizioni De Luca
– Guido Strazza, “Il Gesto e il Segno”, Edizioni Vanni Schewiller
– ‘La collezione di stampe da Durer a Picasso’, Ferdinando Salamon, Arnoldo Mondadori Editore, Milan, 1971
– ‘Rembrandt Dipinti Incisioni e Riflessi sul ’600 e ’700 italiano’ (Rembrandt: Paintings, Engravings and Reflections on 17th- and 18th-Century Italy), various authors, Skira Editore, Milan, 2002
– ‘Hayter e l’Atelier 17’, Carla Esposito, Electra, Milan, 1990

Printmaking Techniques – Graphic Arts
Teaching programme

The Printmaking Techniques course for students from other schools provides an introduction to the world of printmaking and its techniques of expression, both in relief and intaglio. Students will first engage in exercises to familiarise themselves with the world of the line and its expressive tonalities, experimenting with different media and tools. They will develop an understanding of the graphic line and its tonal significance in the composition of images, initially through copying and subsequently through original creation, using various media to practise different techniques.
Students will study and master the line, and each individual will discover their own personal way of using it within their graphic compositions, imbuing them with expressive personality and character. By studying the tonalities of black and white, from maximum light to maximum shadow, students will gain an understanding of the wide range of possibilities offered by the medium itself, enabling them to create complex and original images.
The course will consist of theoretical and practical lectures, oral assessments and regular reviews.
The study and practice of original printmaking will be another key aspect of the subject and will enable students to print the works they create during the course.
